Winter skills Mountaineering courses in Scotland
Join one of our mountaineering courses led by world class mountain guides. We run a range of winter mountaineering courses from January to April each year. We have designed our weekend courses with you in mind. We can also run private group bookings. These courses are designed for beginners and advanced climbers preparing for altitude climbs around the world. We even have a specific weekend with the specific training needed for Himalayan fixed line climbing.
We will tailor the weekend with specific training requirements. You will learn the basics, then move onto technical terrain and practice these skills. We will coach you on using crampons, ice axes, how to move on snow, ice and rock. Also check out our Ski winter skills training in Norway.

Our trips are led by world class guides who have climbed Mount Everest multiple times and led Expeditions on 7 continents over the past two decades. Our courses are designed with your trip in mind. Tailoring the content with specific training in mind. You can take away what you have learned and practice with local guides to re-enforce what you learned in Scotland. Our guides will also be giving advice and information on further training and preparation you will need to make. These courses start from $520.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Arrive in Fort William

It is best to arrive later afternoon as our guides will meet you at the hotel. We use the Ben Nevis Hotel and Leisure Club for our hotel nights. You reorganize all our mountaineering gear and prepare to get an early start the next day. We include 2 hotel nights on a shared basis.

Day 2: Training Day

Today you will focus on how to pack your backpack. Layering and winter clothing. We will make sure you understand the important of footwork in winter conditions. Using your ice axe and ice axe arrest. Use of crampons/ techniques Introduction to avalanche awareness/ weather and winter navigation. We will also focus on safety on steep ground and emergency procedures.

Day 3: Training Day

The techniques learned in the previous day will be put to use out in the mountains. If you are joining an Island Peak training course we will focus on abseiling, fixed line climbing and mountaineering safety and techniques. The main goal will to become comfortable managing a range of techniques while mountaineering.

    We will work with you making sure you are fully prepared for your next adventure and you will be given information and further training and preparation you will need to make. Our goal is to help you becoming more confident in your ability. Learn about rope work, using an Ice axe, scrambling, knots, Jumar, abseiling, moving on snow, mountaineering techniques and physical preparation.
