This journey to Everest base camp was meant to start on the 2nd May 2015. One week after the 7.9 earthquake struct Nepal. Ian was in Kathmandu on the 25th April and soon realized that this AIB Everest base camp trek would have to wait.
After months of uncertainties, changes, challenges and struggle we were able to revive this world class journey to Everest and run the trek in October 2015. 23 brave soles stepped off the plane in Kathmandu to tackle this famous and arduous trek to the base of the world’s highest mountain.
The group were faced with cold weather, sickness, flu, the khumbu cough and altitude sickness. The resilience and commitment of this group was fantastic. They had a couple of sick people in Dingbouche and they pushed through, even Ian was struct down with a chest infection on his 16th trek to base camp and did not make it. The rest of the team all pushed through to their amazing credit and 21 people made it all the way to Everest base camp and back down safely.
This group had it all. Thanks to a couple of team leaders in the group this team came prepared and ready for the Everest challenge. The trip and journey to Everest base camp was a great success and possible due to their hard work. It was great to see the trail to Everest is virtually untouched and in great conditioning. Everest base camp is back open, why not join us in 2016.
