Spend 3 Nights in Namche Bazaar
Spending more time in Namche 11,300 feet offers you more time to adjust to the lower levels of oxygen before moving higher. More time at this elevation offers you optimum acclimatization and you can adjust better to the lack of oxygen for moving higher towards Mount Everest.
All the research suggests this extended stay in Namche Bazaar gives your body more time to create more red blood cells to be able to safely move to higher elevation. In additional to this important acclimatization you you, enjoy the bakeries and local attractions and get over the jet lag.
1). Visit Kanchha Sherpa
Kanchha Sherpa is the last remaining climbing Sherpa from the 1953 Everest Expedition. Kanchha has been on many adventures on Island peak, Makalu and many Everest Expeditions. You can visit Kanchha at the Nirvana Lodge in Namche Bazaar and pay 500 rupees for story time with Kanchha. One of our guides will join the team to be a translator for Kanchha! You need to check out this book tough and cheerful, this is a must read book while you are on the trek to Mount Everest.
2). Visit Shangbouche Hill
Shangbouche Hill sits at 3,900/ 12,795 feet. Without a doubt, Shangbouche Hill has the best mountain viewing in the area. Most people flock to the Everest hotel but this does not have the best view and always over packed with people. You will have stunning views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamsurku, Konde Ri, and Khumbila from Shangbouche Hill.
This area is quiet, peaceful and worth spending an hour soaking up the Himalayan atmosphere while you are acclimatizing. All of our Everest treks will visit Shangbouche Hill on our third day in Namche Bazaar.
3). Café Danphe
This is the original Namche Bar with T-shirts from Everest Expeditions on the wall. Now, however, there are a lot of EBC trekking T-shirts on the wall. You can watch Everest movies or the amazing Sherpa documentary, have a cake and coffee, and play pool.
Enjoy this old school bar at 11,300 feet. However, remember not to have any Everest Beer until your way back down the trail!
4). Bring Gifts for Local Children
Bring Thoughtful Gifts for Local Children in the Everest Region. If you plan to trek in the Everest Region, consider taking a walk up to Jamling Lodge and bringing gifts for the local children. Many children throughout the region face significant hardships and are in need of essential items like shoes, coloring books, pencils, and small toys. These thoughtful gifts can make a meaningful difference in their lives.
When packing for your flight to Lukla, try to include items that are practical and beneficial. However, we strongly advise against bringing sweets or candy, as they can lead to dental issues in areas with limited healthcare. Additionally, if you choose to distribute gifts, make sure you have enough for all the children present to avoid disappointment.
Supporting local communities during your Everest trek not only enriches your experience but also leaves a positive impact on the people who call this remarkable region home.
5). Sherpa Museum
Take a stroll up to the Sherpa Museum, beside the military compound at 3,555m/ 11,663 feet. A new interactive museum is planned, however, for now, you can walk through and learn about the Sherpa culture, Sagarmatha National Park and the Everest Region of Nepal.
You will find a massive statue of Tenzing Norway with views of Mount Everest in the background and also rocks from the bottom of the world and top of Everest. All of our teams will spend time at the Museum on our second day acclimatizing in Namche Bazaar!
