Climb Mera and Island peaks is one of the worlds great Himalayan climbing adventures. A wilderness climbing challenge like no other. You fly into Lukla high in the Himalaya’s and instead of heading up the normal Everest Route we head south off the beaten track towards Mera Peak.
Read our top 10 tips for climbing Mera peak.  We will be camping for most of the trip along with some lodges along the way. We have chosen an acclimatization program that gives you great diversity in the terrain along with giving your body the time needed to adjust correctly to the lack of Oxygen and climb above 5,500m. CONTACT US NOW.
We will spend 3 nights in Khare at 4,950m giving us time to train, prepare and get further acclimatization for climbing up to 6,476m. We will do some rope training, become completely comfortable with using ice axe, crampons, jumar, harness, abseiling. Climbing on Mera Peak is relatively straight forward but these skills will be needed for crossing the Ampulaptsa pass which is the most difficult mountaineering day of the whole trip. Coming with abseiling experience is a must for this trip.
After you cross the Ampulaptsa Pass at 5,815m there is a steep abseil and a steep traverse down to the valley floor. Once we get to the bottom we have a long but amazing walk down towards Island Peak before we turn left around the glacier and head towards our camp for the night at the head of the glacier. Read our top 10 tips for climbing Island peak. We will then head on to climb Island Peak which is a 2 hour walk from the camp, we will set up base camp, undertake more training, and spend a couple of days resting and moving to high camp before a long assault on the summit and all the way back to Chuckung 4,700m/ 15,419 feet.
From here we will make the 3/4 day journey back to Lukla and back to Kathmandu. Get in touch and find out more information about this adventure. We have pricing, itineraries and a wealth of information about these climbs.
Our Mera & Island Peak Climbs 2017 will be professionally lead climbs with top notch climbing Sherpa’s and western guide.
