The Best Trekking Boots for Mount Elbrus

I am going to present 5 different options on trekking boots that we have had personal experience with and know that they will work for your trekking portion of the trip to Mount Elbrus. The most important things to consider when choosing your boots are making sure that they are waterproof, have good ankle support, and provide you with enough arch support and the right fit!  When you are picking your boots, we recommend spending a lot of time in your outdoor store to try on many options, finding which brand/type of boot fits you best.

This is definitely not a one size fits all, every foot is different and while one brand may fit me very well, it may not fit your foot correctly.  So before you make the purchase, try on a LOT of options and spend enough time walking around the store in the boot before you decide!  If you have not broken in your trekking boots adequately before the trip, it could ruin your whole experience, so please do not come on a trip with a pair of boots you have not broken in!

1). La Sportiva Trango Tech GTX

In our opinion, La Sportiva have great footwear options at the moment.  Finding a boot that will last a long time, be comfortable, waterproof and have good support, is always our goal.  This option is both a great trekking boot as well as a light mountaineering boot for alpine climbs. They are crampon compatible, however still a lightweight option good for the trekking portion of the Elbrus trip.  Having the slightly more rigid sole helps keep your foot sturdy and protected on the trails on Mount Elbrus.  These boots would be a great option for the trekking portions on Aconcagua as well as for a Kilimanjaro climb.

3).  Scarpa Zodiac Plus GTX

Scarpa has come out with a new lighter weight option in the Zodiac. These boots are Gore-Tex, so a waterproof boot to keep you dry if you experience moisture on the trail.  They also have good ankle support and lacing system.  These boots have a more rigid sole, which is ideal for the terrain on Mount Elbrus. Scarpa are always re-inventing trekking boots and if they fit your foot correctly, then they may be the right boot for you. They work great and last a long time.  We would also recommend these boots for a Kilimanjaro climb, Everest Base Camp trip, or the Inca Trail.

4). Lowa Renegade GTX Mid

The Lowa Renegade GTX Mid boot has been around for a long time and worn by many trekkers around the world!  These boots would be a great trek for the way into Elbrus. They are waterproof, have good ankle support, and also have a semi-rigid sole.  The grip of these boots and the more rigid sole is ideal for the terrain you will encounter on Elburs.  The negative of these boots is that they do have a lot of stitching on them, making them more susceptible to wearing out faster than other options.  However, if you treat this boot well, you could wear this option for many other treks around the world!
