Mt. Kenya Climbs should be conducted over 7 days. Acclimatization is key to success and you need to make sure you pick the right itinerary for you. Kenya is simply one of the best countries to visit, when it comes to scenery, wildlife and cultural experience. It is often referred to as “Land of Contrasts.”
Mt. Kenya which stands at 17, 058 ft is the second highest peak in Africa. The mountain offers the best “high altitude vegetation class-room” There are plants that are only found on this spectacular mountain. Although the highest peak is only accessible via technical rock climbing, the third highest peak is an equally amazing experience. Besides the height, there are lakes and rivers that make the scenery of the mountain so scenic. There is an altitude of about 2,000ft of bamboo trees, the world‟s largest grass species
Day 1: Nairobi
Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be met and transferred to a city hotel for overnight where you will be booked on BB (bed& breakfast). BB
Day 2: Mt. Kenya
Depart after breakfast and head to the mountain. You will meet your mountain climbing team and Ian Taylor Trekking guide from Tanzania and local crew at the gate. After checking in with the mountain officials, you will start your hike which will take 3-4 hours to your first camp on the mountain at 10,000 ft. (old Moses) Scenery on Mt. Kenya
Day 3: Acclimatization day
Today we will hike up to 12,000 ft. and gain important acclimatization and return back to camp to rest and sleep for the night.
Day 4: Mt. Kenya
On this day you will a pretty long day which will be broken in two by lunch. 6-8 hours Shiptons Camp 14,200 ft.
Day 5: Mt. Kenya
This is your summit day. You will leave camp at 3.00 am so that you get to the summit by sunrise. Hot Lunch at Old Moses for overnight.
Day 6: Mt. Kenya – Naro Moru
From the mountain, you will be picked at the gate by 11 am (`2 -3 hours descend) and taken to a base hotel where you will be bid farewell to your mountain crew and head to your accommodation for overnight on bed and breakfast
Day 7: Mt. Kenya – Nairobi and transfer to airport
Morning after breakfast transfer to Nairobi for around the city activities or direct to the airport for your flight home.
