I have just returned from climbing Kilimanjaro for the 31st time. I am still amazed by the lack of physical training some people are applying to their training and preparation. Not sure how we can communicate this better. Trust me it is critical for your safety and success. The lack of physical conditioning, leg strength and endurance training, put you and our staff at risk. Remember you are coming down from 19,341 feet to 5,577 feet over a short period of time. BE PREPARED!
It’s a long way down off the summit of Kilimanjaro
That means you are coming down 13,764 feet over a 27 hour period. You have already walked for 6 or 7 days and gone up 4,000 feet to the summit. All this is done at high and extreme altitude so why would you not take this seriously.
If you are coming on an Ian Taylor Trekking Kilimanjaro climb you need to come physically prepared with the RIGHT GEAR. We are happy to help you understand the best training and preparation, so just CONTACT US and we can schedule calls and help you understand the specific conditioning needed for this challenging and highly underestimated climb.
