This Everest Base Camp Trek September team was special.  The Irish Heart Foundation are the first team arriving in Nepal this year. They have arrived in Kathmandu with two weeks of amazing scenery ahead of them.  Everest and quality mountain scenery await them over the coming weeks. They are raising funds for their work and glad to be able to support their Trek high into the Himalaya’s. They landed a few hours ago and will endure the delights of Kathmandu. After a nights sleep the group are relaxing in Kathmandu, making sure they have all their last minute items. They took a stroll around some of the amazing cultural sights in Kathmandu and enjoyed the warm weather Kathmandu and interesting cultural experience that Kathmandu has to offer. They are about to venture high into the Himalaya’s and experience the unique culture and welcome of the Sherpa people. Time to pre-hydrate before an early morning flight into Lukla tomorrow and the start of the famous trail up to Everest Base Camp.
Day 1: The team got up early and transferred to Kathmandu airport for their 45 minute flight in through the foothills of the Himalaya’s to Lukla airport positioned at 2,850m on the side of the mountain. You can sometime see Everest in the distance. From there they will make the 3 hour trek down to Phakding. We will update this page when we know more.
Day 2: The team have arrived in the Magical town of Namche Bazaar at 3,440m, everyone is enjoying the journey. They will be based here for two nights as part of the critical acclimatization process. Namche is the Sherpa capital and full of street stalls, bakeries, Irish bars and trekking gear shops. They are settled into the Himalayan Lodge and will be relaxing for the rest of the day.
Day 3: Our teams spend 3 nights in Namche Bazaar, making sure you have the best acclimatization. These 3 nights at 3,440m/ 11,500 feet will give you a safer and more chance of success on the Everest trek.
Day 4: The Group were up bright and early and headed out on an acclimatization trek up to 3,900m. They made their way up past the Shangbouche airstrip to Shanbouche hill with breathtaking views across the Everest Region, a truly amazing place and they had it to themselves.
Day 5: The team left Namche Bazaar today and made their way to Tengbouche. The weather was nice as they weaved their way around the mountains of the Everest Region. They made the long hard trek up to Tengbouche and now relaxing in a lodge beside famous Monastery. We will hear from them again tomorrow as they move towards Dingbouche at 4,400m.
Day 6: Everyone has safely arrived in Dingbouche 4,400m, tried and feeling the affects of the low oxygen environment of 4,400m. The scenery is stunning in this area, Island Peak to the North. Ama Dablam right outside your door. The immense Lhotse to the North west and surrounded by amazing views. This stay in Dingbouche is critical to the acclimatization progress. the group will spend two nights here and relax and enjoy this unique mountain village.
Day 7: The team made it up to 4,950m today a new high record for some of the group. As part of their two day stay in Dingbouche at 4,400m they need to acclimatize further to the low levels of oxygen. This move into the critical part of the trip. The team need to take their time moving higher. And daily hiking, trekking distances are less but it is crucial to take time to walk as slowly as possible to make their way up to the Khumbu Glacier and Everest Base Camp.
Day 8: Everyone is moving strong, they all made the journey from Dingbouche across the beautiful trail up to the Dugla pass. The scenery here is spectacular. They made good progress up the Dugla pass and moved strongly into Lobuche. From Lobuche to Everest base camp is only 4 miles and this will be covered tomorrow.
Day 9: The team made their way up to Everest Base Camp and experienced one the greatest places on the planet. The icefall, amazing glaciers, the history of Everest and the serene beauty of this historic valley. After some time spent in Everest Base Camp the team took pictures and made their way back to Gorak Shep. 100% success remains.
Day 10: Anxious and excited the team headed out into the cold hard air making their way up to Kala Phatthar at 5,545m or 18,500 feet. The view of Everest from here is inspiring. Everest stands another 11,000 ft above this point and hard to imagine how climbers push  high on this mountain. After a 3 hour push they all return to Gorak Shep had breakfast and moved back down the valley to Pheriche for the night. Everyone is safely moving back down the valley.
Day 11: Tired and ready for a break and shower, the team retraced their steps back to Tengbouche and cut across to Khumjung for the night, this is where Sir Edmond Hillary built many schools for the people of the Khumbu region over many years.
Day 12: The team were up early and moved down through Namche Bazaar and will keep moving to Phakding at 2,600m. They will spend the night there before making their way back to Lukla and their flight back to Kathmandu. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves and the air gets warmer the further they drop down.
Day 13: Everyone made it all the way round trip to Lukla airport. The last 3 hours uphill to Lukla was tough but, everyone can enjoy the success of getting face to face with Everest and getting back to Lukla. They will relax for the rest of the day their early morning flight back to Kathmandu.
Day 14: After a long but rewarding journey the whole team are back in Kathmandu and enjoying the delights of the Thamel district.
