Following trails that weave between crystal-clear alpine lakes and high mountain meadows, you’ll spend much of the day above the treeline, where uninterrupted views stretch across the surrounding peaks and valleys.
The route explores part of the renowned Five Lakes region, celebrated for its pristine landscapes, remarkable biodiversity and colourful alpine flora. During the summer months, the mountainsides come alive with vibrant rhododendrons, gentians and an array of wildflowers, creating a spectacular backdrop for the day’s walk. An early start allows us to experience the tranquillity of the mountains before most visitors arrive from nearby Madonna di Campiglio, making it the perfect time to appreciate the stillness of this protected alpine environment. Keep an eye on the surrounding slopes, where chamois are often seen grazing in the early morning light.

Along the way, you’ll pass beneath the striking Turion Peak, a slender limestone tower that rises dramatically above the surrounding grasslands. Although the day involves a significant descent, the trail follows well-maintained mountain paths through a constantly changing landscape of alpine meadows, rocky outcrops and peaceful forests. As you lose altitude, sweeping mountain views gradually give way to the tranquil woodlands surrounding one of Trentino’s most celebrated natural treasures.
Your trek concludes at the beautiful Lake Tovel, famous for its crystal-clear waters and spectacular reflections of the surrounding mountains. Nestled within Adamello Brenta Nature Park, the lake is one of the most photographed locations in the Italian Alps and the perfect place to reflect on the incredible journey you’ve completed.
Lake Tovel also has a fascinating history. Once known as the “Red Lake,” its waters would occasionally turn a remarkable crimson colour during the summer due to a rare natural phenomenon.
