dditional Expenses on the Everest Base Camp Trek

We recommend using water purification tablets. Aquatabs can be bought at home or in Kathmandu. You will be drinking 4/5 liters of water each day. You can also use a Steri-pen to treat and clean your water.  Avoiding water borne illness on the trek is imperative!

You can buy water purification tables in Kathmandu at any pharmacy or on the trail to Mount Everest in Namche Bazaar. Bottled water (plastic) was outlawed in the Everest region as of 2020, but it is still available on the trail in 2023. The cost per liter can range from $1 to $4. The most expensive water is in Gorak Shep.

Water Bottles are Still Available

We encourage you not to purchase bottled water if possible. There is no recycling in the region. If you do buy water bottles or any recyclable items, please bring them back out of the region with you.   You will want to make sure that you have adequate amounts of water purification tablets with you for the entire trek.

Leave No Trace

The higher you go up the trail in the Everest Region, then the higher the price tags are for items!  Anything you want to purchase in the region has to be carried in on the back of a porter or animal, which is why things are more expensive the further they have to travel.

Please be respectful of this beautiful valley and follow the Leave No Trace policy while in the mountains. Everything you bring in to the mountains, you MUST bring back out!  Read some REVIEWS from our trips.
