1). The Everest Base Camp trek is a longer trip than Kilimanjaro. The Kilimanjaro trails up to high camp are much easier than the Everest Base Camp trails under foot. The Everest trails have more up and down throughout the trek and are more challenging on the way down as there is more distance to cover. 2). High altitude is always a critical factor so in my option from climbing Kilimanjaro 25 times and leading 27 treks to Everest Base Camp. High altitude on the Everest Base Camp trek is more demanding. Trust me living at high altitude is much harder than going to high altitude. As you will be living at higher altitude on the Everest Base Camp, you spend more time at higher altitude than on Kilimanjaro. Most of your time on Kilimanjaro is spent between 3,500m/ 11,483 ft and 4,000m/ 13,123 ft with minimal time above these elevations. On the Everest Base Camp trek you spend 4 or 5 nights above 4,400m/ 14,435 ft. which can take it’s toll on your body. So you much have excellent acclimatization built into your itinerary for the Everest Trek.

In my opinion Kilimanjaro is harder on the body than the Everest Base Camp Trek. On Kilimanjaro there are some big descents in a shorter period of time and this makes it a more physical challenge. In saying all this, there is no one size fits all. Age, physical conditioning and fitness, your ability to deal with camping, ability to adapt to the lack of oxygen, discomfort, food, toilets, adjustment in your body to altitude, body weight, strength, sunburn, hydration, pacing, service, knowledge all plays factors in your ability to achieve and enjoy both exciting adventures.
