Kilimanjaro day 8 Lemosho route: After the longest day of the trip and best sleep on the mountain you will be up at 7am for an 8am departure. It is always best to sleep as low as possible. From Mweka camp 3,100m/ 10,170ft. to Mweka gate at 1,900m/ 6,234ft. for a beautiful lunch. That is a jump from 5,895m/ 19,341ft to 1,900m/ 6,234ft over the previous 24 hours. This is a lot of down hill. So you must come prepared for level of exertion.

As you rise in warmer temperatures you are tired and it’s hard to get yourself out of bed and ready to move down the mountain to the Mweka gate. Just remember you have climbed Kilimanjaro. An amazing lifetime achievement that no-one can take away from you. It is time to get back to Arusha for a shower, rest, re-hydrate and possibly a beer.
You will have breakfast grab 3 more liters of water for the final journey down the mountain. The porters, cooks, guides will say good bye in their own way. Dancing, music and song which could go on for 30 minutes. This will help you make the final leg of the adventure back to the Mweka gate where you will pick up your summit certificate.
The route makes it’s way back down through the rain forest and it gets warmer as you drop lower in altitude. Porters will be moving past you sometimes at a racing pace. They are due a break and rest after carrying all the equipment up and down the mountain.
