After the longest day and best sleep you will be up at 8am for the final hike down the mountain from Mweka camp 3,100m/ 10,170ft. to Mweka gate at 1,900m/ 6,234ft. That is a jump from 5,895m/ 19,341ft to 1,900m/ 6,234ft over the previous 24 hours.
As you rise in warmer temperatures you are tired and it’s hard to get yourself out of bed and ready to move down the mountain to the Mweka gate and back to Arusha for a shower, rest, re-hydrate and possibly a beer.
You will have breakfast grab 3 more liters of water for the final journey down the mountain. The porters, cooks, guides will say good bye in their own way. Dancing, music and song will help you make the final leg of the adventure back to the gate where you will pick up your summit certificate.
The route makes it’s way back down through the rain forest and it gets warmer as you drop lower in altitude. Porters will be moving past you sometimes at a racing pace. They are due a break and rest after carrying all the equipment up and down the mountain.
