Ian Taylor on Climbing Mount Everest and the Everest Movie

The Movie

In 2015 Hollywood released the movie titled ‘Everest’ which told a story of the 1996 disaster on the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest.  Ian was invited to Dublin to watch the movie along with Hannah Shields, who climbed Mount Everest in 2004, to give their feedback on the movie and well as their experiences on their own personal journeys on Everest.  If you want to hear more about Ian’s experience on Mount Everest, you can try and catch one of his Everest presentations or join him trekking to Everest Base Camp or other destinations around the world! Check out our upcoming trips HERE.

My Everest

Ian has written a little bit about his experience climbing high on Everest and climbing Everest in general. When he was 29 years old, he became the youngest Irish person to climb the worlds highest peak at that time.  He and his climbing partner decided they wanted to climb four mountains on four continents in one year, with Mount Everest being the final summit.  They also took on the challenge of trying to raise $100,000 to build a primary school in Kitwandwe, Uganda, and provide education to over 240 children in the surrounding area.

In May 2008, Ian stood on the top of Mount Everest, and in March 2009, the Mount Everest Primary School in Kitwandwe, Uganda was officially opened.

Leading Others

Since 2009, Ian has been leading teams and individuals to reach their goals in the mountains!  He has led over 38+ treks to Everest Base Camp, 35+  climbs up Mount Kilimanjaro, climbed Island Peak 17+ times and numerous other treks and climbs around the world.  You can join him trekking to Everest base camp, Kilimanjaro, Island peak, Mera peak or he is also available to speak internationally about his unique Everest journey.

New Goals

As Ian says in the interview, he does not see himself climbing Mount Everest again.  His goals now is to help others reach their summits!  Ian continues to support Fields of Life who he built the Mt. Everest primary school with and is also committed to helping the village of Goli in Nepal after it was destroyed by the earthquake in 2015. Ian Taylor Trekking has received multiple awards and honors over the years, including an International Tourism Award in Nepal and more notably when our head guide on Kilimanjaro was named the Number One Guide of the Year on Mount Kilimanjaro.
