Climb on Lugnaquilla

We had a small group out climbing Lugnaquilla today. Lugnaquilla is Leinster’s highest peak. Today and tomorrow the Four peak challenge happens.  Lugnaquilla will be full of people aiming to stand on top of the highest mountain in each province of Ireland. Ireland has four provinces, and Lugnaquilla is the highest peak in one of these provinces, Leinster. The three other mountains are Carrauntoohill, Slieve Donard and Mweelrea mountain in the west of Ireland.

Lugnaquilla is not to be underestimated. I have climbed it over 250 times. Lugnaquilla can throw out some crazy weather at any time of the year. It is a great training ground with stunning views, on a good day you can see over 100 miles across to Wales in the United Kingdom. The summit slope can be very deceptive and sends people back down in all sorts of directions. We recommend using a guide on this mountain even in the summer months.
