Trek Lugnaquilla

Lugnaguilla 925m (3,035 ft) The highest peak in Leinster, and Ireland's 13th highest peak which is affectionately known as "Lug". Views, on a clear day, extend east across the Irish Sea to the mountains of Snowdonia in Wales, and west to the mountains of Munster.

A little bit more about the trek

We approach Lugnaquilla from the Glenmalure Valley, but we do not recommend this trek for inexperienced walkers.  It is a moderate trek and should only be undertaken with proper equipment and experienced guide.

We first rise out of the valley floor and make our way up a road path which opens up into a beautiful basin. The landscape has a weather beaten almost harsh feel, however it is spectacularly beautiful. There are a few steep trekking sections before we find ourselves in real wilderness. We move higher to a scrambling section before the long slog up to the summit plateau.

The summit is marked with a summit table, listing the direction of surrounding mountains and regions. From here we will head back down a slightly different route but aiming to finish in 5 hours, and back for some well deserved food and drink in one of the local pubs!
